Broad Beans (Vicia faba) are robust and high-yielding vegetable plants. A reliable member of our collection, Broad Bean ‘Imperial Green Longpod’ is prized for its extra-long pods, excellent flavour, and consistently heavy crops. This traditional variety produces smooth, bright green pods, each filled with large, tender pale-green beans with a rich, buttery taste. Long regarded as one of the finest broad beans for productivity and reliability, ‘Imperial Green Longpod’ remains a favourite among allotment growers and home gardeners for its superb harvests and easy-growing nature.
Thriving in fertile, moisture-retentive yet well-drained soil, ‘Imperial Green Longpod’ performs best in a sunny, sheltered position with protection from strong winds. Plants benefit from regular watering during flowering and pod formation to encourage plumper beans and prolonged cropping from late spring into summer. Taller stems may need staking or string supports to prevent them from leaning when heavily laden with pods. Pinching out the tops once the lower pods have set can help improve airflow and reduce the risk of blackfly infestations. Harvest pods while young and firm for the sweetest flavour, and pick regularly to keep plants producing abundantly. Combining traditional flavour, generous pod size, and reliable performance, Broad Bean ‘Imperial Green Longpod’ is an outstanding choice for productive kitchen gardens.
Supplied in approx. 1 litre containers.
