Broad Beans (Vicia faba) are hardy, productive vegetable plants. A true champion of efficiency in our collection, Broad Bean ‘Witkiem Manita’ is loved for its exceptional speed, outstanding reliability, and gourmet flavour. It holds the prestigious Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Award of Garden Merit, proving its superb quality for home growers. It produces numerous compact, short, and well-filled green pods packed with four to five plump, succulent white beans.
Thriving in fertile, moisture-retentive yet well-drained soil, ‘Witkiem Manita’ grows best in a sunny, sheltered position, though it is remarkably adaptable to various soil types. This hardy annual is exceptionally cold-tolerant, making it an excellent alternative for early spring sowings from February onwards, or even under cloches in late autumn for a head start. Plants benefit from regular, generous watering once the pods begin to set to ensure a heavy, juicy crop. Reaching a compact and manageable height of around 100cm, its sturdy, upright stems are less prone to blowing over, though light support or staking is still beneficial in exposed locations when laden with pods. Combining rapid growth with an abundance of delicious, high-quality beans, Broad Bean ‘Witkiem Manita’ is a reliable and highly rewarding addition to any vegetable plot.
Supplied in approx. 1 litre containers.
