Clematis Vitalba

Clematis Vitalba is also known as Old Man's Beard or Traveller's Joy. This wonderful, deciduous climber produces masses of tiny, white, star-shaped flowers with a green tinge that smother the plant from mid-summer through until early autumn. After the flowers have finished, fluffy, round seed-heads are borne and are loved by birds as nesting material. Its fast-growing habit makes it ideal for quickly covering unsightly structures or creating a wildlife-friendly garden feature.

This wonderful climber thrives in fertile, well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade. Clematis vitalba is easy to grow and remarkably resilient once established. Plant with its roots shaded and support stems with a trellis, fence or tree. Prune in late winter or early spring to control its growth and promote healthy new shoots. Perfect plant for adding some vertical interest to your garden, which can often be overlooked!
