Eastern Redbud, or Cercis canadensis, is a stunning deciduous tree that is native to eastern North America. It is well known for its vivid early spring flower display, which consists of pink to purple blossoms that bloom profusely on bare branches and contrast dramatically with the surrounding landscape before the foliage emerges. The next set of leaves is heart-shaped and beautiful, often with a reddish tint that matures to a luscious green.
Eastern Redbud, which usually reaches heights of 6 to 9 metres, is a great choice for private gardens as a specimen tree or when planted in small groups in larger landscapes because of its rounded, spreading canopy. It works well as an understory tree in wooded environments as well.
