Physalis franchetii - Chinese Lantern Plant
Availability: In stock
Physalis franchetii, commonly known as the Chinese Lantern Plant, is a striking perennial grown for its highly decorative lantern-like seed pods. Tiny, creamy white flowers appear during the summer months, followed by bright orange-scarlet berries enclosed within papery red lanterns that glow beautifully from late summer into autumn. These colourful lanterns provide exceptional autumn interest and are perfect for borders, seasonal displays and dried flower arrangements.
Thriving in well-drained soil in a sunny or partially shaded position, Chinese Lanterns are ideal for cottage gardens and naturalistic planting schemes. Remove faded stems after the season and, to prevent plants from becoming invasive, try severing the area around the crown with a spade each autumn to restrict spreading roots. A wonderfully unique plant, it brings lasting warmth and seasonal charm to the garden.
Supplied in approx. 1 litre containers.
