Prunus incisa Kojo-No-Mai - Standard Fuji Cherry Tree

Product ref: PT22191

Availability: In stock

Prunus 'Kojo-no-mai' or Fuji Cherry as it is commonly known, is a very pretty and delicate looking deciduous plant - yet it is tough, hardy and easy to grow. The long, wiry twigs burst into life in late winter and early spring when the crimson buds open to display stunning pale flowers. The young leaves are long, pale green and turn darker as they mature. In Autumn, they take on glorious shades of red and orange and create a stunning display before they drop for Winter.

For the autumn colour they are worth buying alone, for the glorious display of spring blossom, they are simply stunning. When these fade the unusual tracery of twisting branches provides a further element of interest. Kojo-no-mai has a compact, rounded shape and a gently spreading habit, which makes it an excellent shrub for the smaller garden or that small space you may have in mind.

Strong, plant supplied 2-3 litre container, full of buds and flowers as pictured in season. Kojo-no-mai means 'flight of the butterflies'. It was discovered along the Yoshida path to Mount Fuji, hence the common name. The original plant did not survive being transplanted, so Kojo-no-mai was nearly lost to cultivation, but it was luckily reproduced by cuttings before it died. The spreading crooked, densely twigged branches will be festooned with pink buds which open to small pure white flowers on delivery in March. The small green serrated leaves that follow will turn a brilliant bronze to crimson in the autumn. Ideal for the small garden or even as a container plant.
