PRE-ORDER: Rhamnus Cathartica - Buckthorn - Bare Root Hedging 60-80cm - Pack of 24
Rhamnus cathartica, commonly known as Buckthorn, is available in our collection as a pack of 24 bare root hedging plants, each measuring 60-80cm in height. This native shrub is valued not only for its dense, thorny branches that make an excellent security hedge but also for its ecological benefits. In spring, it produces inconspicuous greenish flowers, followed by glossy black berries in the autumn, which are a vital food source for birds and other wildlife.
Buckthorn is highly adaptable, thriving in a variety of soil types and conditions, including partial shade to full sun. Its robust nature and fast growth rate make it an ideal choice for establishing wildlife-friendly boundaries or for inclusion in mixed native hedges. To ensure the best start for your Buckthorn hedging, plant it in well-drained soil, and water thoroughly during the first growing season to encourage a deep and healthy root system. Buckthorn is low maintenance once established, requiring little care beyond occasional pruning to shape or manage its size.
