Rhamnus Frangula - Bare Root Hedging 80-100cm - Pack of 24
Availability: Out of stock
Rhamnus frangula, also known as Alder Buckthorn, is an excellent choice for naturalistic and wildlife-friendly hedging. This hardy deciduous shrub features glossy, dark green foliage that turns a rich golden-yellow in autumn. In spring, it produces clusters of small, star-shaped, creamy-green flowers that attract pollinators. These are followed by glossy red berries that ripen to black, providing a valuable food source for birds.
Â
Bare root Alder Buckthorn is economical and easy to establish, thriving in moist, well-drained soils and tolerating both full sun and partial shade. It is particularly suitable for damp or acidic ground and requires minimal maintenance – just light pruning to shape after flowering. Perfect for creating wildlife corridors or natural hedgerows, it pairs beautifully with other native hedging plants like Hawthorn, Guelder Rose, or Dog Rose.

Supplied as a pack of 24 bare root plants at a height of 80-100cm.
