Physocarpus opulifolius Diabolo is a shrub grown for its rich burgundy red foliage, providing a plant with a contemporary, modern look. During early summer, clusters of bright white flowers kissed with pink are produced, offer a nice contrast to the dark leaves.
Physocarpus opulifolius Diablo is a stunning addition to the shrub border, it is very hardy and can tolerate a wide range of conditions. Physocarpus are tolerant of many soils, preferring a well drained site. It will take some shade but will exhibit the best colour in full sun. Diablo looks particularly good partnered with a range of colourful foliage shrubs, such as Berberis, Choisya and Euonymus. Excellent at the back of the perennial garden or in mixed and shrub borders, the flowers and foliage may also be used for cutting and vase work. The plant is also attractive to bees, butterflies and birds and is drought-tolerant once established. Supplied in approx 7-10 litre containers.
