Corylus avellana Contorta 'Scooter' is a rare and unusual compact form of the contorted twisted stem hazel. Combining the unusual 'corkscrew' stems with stunning bright green leaves and tight curly stems. This is a wonderful bushy shrub form, with a mass of twisting branches. It does best planted in a moist, well drained soil in sun or semi shade and it will grow up to 2.5m making it suitable for small or large gardens. For floral art, its twisted stems are ideal, especially when laden with catkins in spring!
This corkscrew hazel is ideal for the middle of a sunny border or large container. The twisted stems, provide a curious and unusual focal point and are really something to get people talking. It even looks good in the winter garden when the contorted branches are laden with frost. In autumn a crop of tasty hazel nuts can be expected.
