These will provide summer impact on your patio, deck or even a balcony and they are a really architectural plant. Washingtonias are also known as: Mexican Fan Palms, Cotton Palms or the Skyduster. As the name suggests, this palm originates in Mexico; it is also the iconic Hollywood palm that lines the boulevards of Los Angeles and Beverly Hills in California, USA.
It's perfectly easy to grow in the UK though, with plants reputedly being hardy to as low as -8c. Over time Washingtonia palms will form a tall, slender trunk topped with massive fan-shaped leaves. It will do best in a bright sunny warm position in free draining soil. This really is a Gorgeous large leafed Fan Palm that will provide an architectural effect in the garden. In summer sunshine, the large leaves will cast beautiful shadows that dance on the breeze. Give yourself a taste of the tropics and sip cocktails under your very own palm tree with these once established.
Can also be used indoors as a houseplant, or simply enjoy outside on the patio. Why not keep it pristine all year by keeping outside in summer and inside in winter? Washingtonia palms are reputedly hardy to as low as -8c once estblished. These palms will form a tall trunk topped with massive fan-shaped leaves. Grows best in a bright sunny warm position in well drained compost or soil. Ideal grown in planters to grace a patio or deck, it is one of the fastest growing palms, and can also be enjoyed indoors as a house plant. We like to keep ours outside in the summer, and move to the conservatory over winter to protect them from the worst of the British weather, but it is equally at home in the garden.
