This Sweden native is a highly popular plant, much loved for the masses of bright red berries it produces from Summer all the way through Winter. A low, creeping, evergreen shrub it has a maximum height of just 0.1-0.5 metres but ultimate spread of 1-1.5 metres, making it the perfect shrub for ground cover or planting at the edge of a mixed border. Beautiful pink flowers emerge between May and June with the characteristic red berries produced from late July into Winter.
Â
Often compared in taste to Cranberries, the Lingonberry has traditionally been used in sauces and preserves, especially jam. Plant in a sheltered area in full sun or partial shade. Similarly, to Cranberries and Blueberries, Lingonberries must be grown in acidic soil which is preferably moist but well-drained.Â
